Infrasound and its Effects on Humans
By Shane Sirois
When investigating a home or an alleged haunted location, there are quite a few things a researcher needs to be educated on and aware of. These things need to be confirmed to be present or confirmed to be absent before even considering the location of a legitimate haunt. VLF's (Very Low Frequency) or Infrasound is one of the things that need to be considered during an investigation.
Infrasound waves are inaudible and usually created by a man made object. Generators, pumps, fans, cars, refrigerators, subwoofers, as well as many other things, can cause these waves. Even though you can not hear these sound waves they have an effect on you. The symptoms that one suffers are the same as in a legitimate haunted location. Therefore it is the first thing that comes to ones mind when they are effected by Infrasound, that they are in the presence of a ghost.
Nausea, nervousness, cold, paranoia, feeling of being watched and blurred movements in your peripheral vision are some of the more common symptoms. It has been proven that these sound waves, that are around 20Hz, can get trapped inside a building and cause these feelings in humans as well basic poltergeist activity. These "standing waves" need to be ruled out in a alleged haunt before even thinking that there is an entity in the home.
Investigators that do not address this area are not doing there jobs well and potentially giving the wrong information to the resident.
I will be posting more information and scenarios about Infrasound.
